Thus having cramps and a minor cold, WIll Cooper of Gresham competed at the Glendoveer Challenger Tournament at Glendoveer Tennis Center in Portland and won it in the Boys 16s Division. Will Cooper is the #1 singles player for Centennial High since the 2008 season. I have seen him play as a teammate for two years already and have witnissed his skills in the USTA tournaments at West Hills Challenger and this tournament Glendoveer Challenger. Will Cooper is a tremendous player at 16 years of age but still lacks the mental composure needed to be even greater. His temper seems to always fall short within the first set of his matches and leads to unnecessary errors. Some could argue that it doesn’t matter since he wins his matches but he could also win matches that seem utterly impossible as long as he keeps his composure under heavy pressure. Look out for Will Cooper in the 2009 season of Centennial Tennis.

Ball Review: Penn Championship
18 09 2008The Penn Championship Tennis Balls are great to use for the everyday recreational tennis player. The ball has a good bright color on it and has a good bounce to it when hitting on it during a tennis session. It is the ball that I use the most. The ball is crisp and clean when fresh out of the can and can last a good two weeks of playing before getting too flat for play. For a more durable but pricey ball consider using the ProPenn or ATP Penn balls.

Racket Review: Wilson K6-One Team
17 09 2008The Wilson K6-One Team is a well versed racket. It has a 5 points head light which is pretty much the same as even balance. Due to the even balance, you can get more power in this racket and still maintain ball control compared with the more advanced lighter head K6-One 95 rackets. I have this racket and have been using it for almost a year and I still think it’s solid. Serving with this racket is very easy because it is roughly weighs around 10.5 oz. strung. A one handed backhand is also easy to do while the two hand is slightly more difficult for me at least. Forehands are great especially with the power and control this racket has. I am switching to the K6-One 95 18×20 racket though because I want more control. I haven’t been using it that much but once I do I will write a review for that one.

Centennial Eagles Train for the 09 Season
14 09 2008Starting this school year at Centennial, introduced by senior Paul Chung, the boys and girls tennis teams will be having a after school tennis program for the team everyday. Paul Chung informed everyone that players will be playing tennis at Centennial everyday weather permitting. If all the players are consistently playing after school, the teams will be a strong force coming into the 2009 season in the Spring.

Roger Federer deserves the US Open
9 09 2008
Watching the ATP Tour this year has been very exciting with the first three Slams taken by Novak Dkokovic and Rafael Nadal. The lopsided victory for Nadal at Wimbledon was amazing and the #1 ranking taken away from Federer by Nadal during the last week of the Beijing Olympics. Tennis 08 is a historic year. But even though Federer didn’t get his Wimbledon, at least he pulled through and defended his reign at the US Open as 5 time defending champion.
