Falling Short

Ferrer going for an off balanced forehand.

Today during the BNP PARIBAS MASTERS 9th seed David Ferrer lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.  The score was 6-3, 6-2 in favor of Kohlschreiber.  I watched the match on tv and I noticed that Kohlschreiber has a very good one handed backhand.  I remember earlier in the year when he played against Andy Roddick and was able to execute many backhand winners on him.  Ferrer has always been a consistent player throughout the year but during this match it was surprising to see him make so many unforced errors.  Currently he is ranked 5th in the world but fails to qualify for the last tournament of the year, Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai.

Need More Heart

18 10 2008

Since last season of Centennial tennis I tried getting better at the game. I competed in a tournament too to test my skills. I lost in the winners bracket and losers bracket too. Maybe that was too soon to test my skills but it’s wotleth it though because I’m still getting experience by playing against good players. My heart to win matches are not as strong as my opponents usually. I definately got the skills to put away points and rallys but not enough heart to fight for the very last point. One thing I don’t train enough is the mental game. There’s more than keeping composure and maintaining emotions. Hopefully by next season i’ll have the heart to win.

Nadal possibly ending the year as number 1

16 10 2008

On the ATP website it said that Rafael Nadal is very close to clinching his year end ranking as number 1.  Check it our here.

James Blake going downhill?

15 10 2008

James Blake, one of two American tennis stars that are in the top 10.  I’m not a fan of him but as an American I would root for him any time he plays.  This guy has never won any Grand Slams during his career and I don’t see any Slams well within his sight.  He also got knocked down a spot in the race for the Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai recently by Juan Martin Del Potro by 17 points.  Will there be any more of James Blake?  At age 29 I think it’s going downhill from here on out.

Rafael Nadal

3 10 2008

Ok, this guy may not be one of Tennis’ legendary great players but in this generation he is a fiersome warrior in the sport.  Rafael Nadal, young at 22, has a lot of potential still.  He recently took the #1 spot in ATP tour from Roger Federer during the Beijing Olympics.  Statistic shows that a player at his caliber will not be able to last at #1 for awhile but I don’t think it matters that much.  He worked hard and showed the world that he can reach #1.  His tennis game is beastly.  He has an unbelievable strong forehand shot that produces a tremendous amount of topspin due to his western grip.  When you want to know what speed is in tennis then you will hear about Nadal.  Almost every ball that is hit towards him he can get because he is so fast.  With this year’s season coming to and end I can’t wait to see what surprises Rafa Nadal brings to the court.

Wimbledon 2008 Highlights

Head Agassi Pro Grip

2 10 2008

Lacking durability and tackyness this grip has the feel needed to play your best at the game.  The Head Agassi Pro Grip is another excellent choice when it comes to deciding which type of overgrip to use.  The grip is soft and very absorbant.  I used it when playing indoors at Cascade Gresham and it absorbed a lot of my sweat from my hands and the moisture in the air.  By the time I was finished playing, the grip was too soaked to use anymore.  So if you are wondering what kind of overgrip to use and you aren’t that dependant on durability then I would recommend this grip.

Wilson Pro Overgrip

1 10 2008

This is probably the best overgrip there is.  It lasts long and feels very comfortable.  I have been using this grip for the past 2 years and I am sure that others will believe that it’s a great overgrip once they ahve used it.  The grip is tacky and thin so it doesn’t enlarge the grip size too much while giving you superb feel.  They call it a pro overgrip for a reason not only because it’s used by pros but it works the best.
