As the regular season ends for the ATP Tour, I am left with boring days without any new tournaments on Tennis Channel. This 2008 season has been very good for tennis though. Novac Djokovic wins the Australian Open for the first time and rises to world number three. Rafael Nadal continues to dominate at Roland Garros for the fifth consecutive time and he finally wins his first Wimbledon but wait that’s not all, he finishes the year end ranking as world number one. Roger Federer, struggling as world number one before falling to second, managed to hold strong and take the US Open again. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga wins the BNP PARIBAS tournament to qualify for the Tennis Masters Cup. Lastly Novac Djokovic wins the Tennis Masters Cup. This season has many unfamiliar winners. Many would expect winners of major tournaments to be Nadal or Federer but this year we’ve had Tsonga, Djokovic, and Del Potro win big. I am excited for the 2009 season and will be ready to blog about it.

Federer…
14 11 2008
The ol hair sweep
Like I said the other day about how I think Federer is not performing good anymore since his lost at Wimbledon I can back it up because today he lost his chance to win the Masters Cup after losing to Andy Murray of England. He lost 6-4, 6-7, 5-7. More information upon his defeat is located at www.atptennis.com.

3.5 level tennis player at Centennial
14 11 2008Several weeks ago a mutual friend of mine told me that her cousin from Iraq was coming to our school and is a really good tennis player. Today my friend told me that the iraqi said he was a 3.5 level player. 3.5 is a pretty good level for high school tennis. I am a 4.5 level player. I know this guy will be playing as a doubles players for Centennial and I hope he can be successful at it.

Greatest doubles match
13 11 2008
Right now I am currently watching an encore of the doubles match of M.Bhupathi/M.Knowles against P.Cuevas/L.Horna. The score is split sets at 6-7, 7-6 and 10-5 third set tie breaker for the win favoring Cuevas/Horna. Not much doubles matches are broadcasted on tv but I have the Tennis Channel which shows it. This is my first doubles match that I have watched on tv and is currently the greatest doubles match I have seen in tennis. The score was so close and no breaks were converted.

Davydenko Semis
13 11 2008
Get Some!
Today Nikolai Davydenko clinched his spot in the semis of the Masters Cup after defeating Juan Martin Del-Potro 6-3, 6-2 in 87 minutes! WOW that’s quick. I didn’t get to see the match but I’m pretty sure he blew Del-Potro away. Seriously, a tournament with the worlds best tennis players and, and Del-Potro loses in 87 minutes! Davydenko is an old school player. I expected better from Del-Potro. For more information about Davydenko click here to read a different blog on tennis.

Andy Roddick’s injured ankle
13 11 2008An injured ankle has prevented USA’s only player, Andy Roddick, to discontinue play at the Masters Cup today. The player replacing him was Radek Stepanek. I figured he wouldn’t get far away in the tournament anyway because from what I have seen he is garbage. The guy is going no where just like James Blake. American tennis is going no where in the ATP. I would like Roddick to prove me wrong and win a Slam in 2009 or better yet James Blake winning a Slam for the first time.
Lets hope that this ankle injury isn’t going to screw him over next year.

Federer doing poorly at Shanghai
13 11 2008
Well the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai has started since sunday and Roger Federer, one of my favorites, is not doing so well with one win and loss. He lost to Gilles Simon, someone who he could and shoud beat easily, but I guess he was off. I think that since he lost Wimbledon he hasn’t been at his very best. Some could argue against that with the win he had at the US OPEN but he did win against Andy Murray who wasn’t the favorite anyway. I want to see Federer win this tournament to end the season.

Tsonga Qualifies for Masters Cup
5 11 2008
Sunday I watched an encore of the BNP PARIBAS finals of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and David Nalbandian. It was a very good match on both sides. Tsonga ends up being victorious with the score 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. I have been watching the tournament daily via the Tennis Channel and I have never seen Tsonga play so well since the Australian Open in the beginning of this year. I congratulate Tsonga with his victory and I hope to see greater matches at the Masters Cup in Shanghai.
